Total VICTORY!!
And, I am not talking about the Olympics. I know that you have read about the KnitPack Hybrid. Well, it has been a whirlwind, but I finally perfected the design, and if I do say so myself, it is quite impressive. Along the road, there were stitches, a surgery, and a bad reaction to codeine, but it works. It really does. After I cut myself, my mother found out that she had to have serious surgery to relieve serious, chronic pain in her neck and back. After the doctor got into the surgery, they discovered what was causing all the problems. Mom had a bone spur the size of a quarter almost in her spinal cord. They were able to remove it with little problem, but it irritated the nerve that was already inflamed. Couple that pain with surgery, and an allergic reaction to the pain medication, and you would have a bad night. But that wasn’t the end of it. Her skin felt like it was crawling from the pain meds, and then she got vertigo from all the saline water and she spent then entire night heaving and pulling every muscle in her body.
Luckily, she is fine now and has NO PAIN at all. She hasn’t taken a pain med in forever and is even chipper. She has her moments, sometimes she has trouble sleeping, but she is in fine spirits and is happy to be pain free. On top of the cut hand and removed stitches, the surgery and the design of the hybrid, we got a huge order on Etsy. I was totally excited, and then realized that I had to sew every piece that was ordered. Did I mention that I still had to teach 8th graders the difference between a gerund and a participle this week at work. Because they will need that precisely once in the rest of their lives unless they become 8th grade language teachers like me, so yea. Stressful week, so here I am to introduce you to the newest way to organize all the needles you could possibly need.
So without further ado, here is the newest organizational tool from Erin.Lane:
The KnitPack Hybrid, which by the way we might change the name of, so suggestions,
are always welcome, is designed to hold the most common needles needed by serious knitters all in one place. This KnitPack is designed to hold all the notions you could need, your circular needles, double points, and even a set of interchangeable needles.
This organizational system is designed with the avid knitter in mind. In order to keep you knitting, we have designed this organizational system with the large 6 X 12 inch notions pocket at the top, so you don’t have to open the entire pack just to get your notions out. Let’s face it, most of the time, you need a tape measure, or a stitch marker more than you need to get another set of needles in the middle of a project.
Next, there is a KnitPack within a KnitPack to hold your DPNs. This KnitPack in the center of the Pack, is 10 X 10 inches and has 2 pockets to hold everything from DPNs to crochet hooks of varying sizes. One of the pockets are only 4 inches deep to ensure that no matter how tall or short your DPNs, you can use every last ounce of space to keep yourself organized and knitting. The front pocket is 4 inches deep while the back pocket is 6. Keeping the diversity of knitters in mind, we know that some like he 5 inch needles while others like the 7. This mini-KnitPack will hold just about any DPN or crochet hook you could need. While folding nicely in the middle of the larger pack to help ensure that nothing falls out of your pack, no matter how it is turned when closed.
In the last section of the three, there is a section for two types of knitting needles. Because we all have standard circular needles (I mean we all started somewhere, however you have recently, possibly for Valentine’s Day, got a new shiny set of interchangeable needles) you need a way keep all that organized and orderly. In order to save space, we have layered an interchangeable pocket on top of the 8 pockets for circular needles. We understand the challenges of keeping that many needles organized, so the
interchangeable pocket flips down and has a divided pocket on the back to hold your system’s cords. This pocket measuring 10 X 5 will hold any interchangeable knitting needle system. I use it to hold my KnitPicks Options, but I have seen this pocket used with Addi Interchangeables, and Denise Interchangeables. This pocket is the same pocket from the KnitPack Interchangeable, with a slight twist; instead of being fixed, it flips back and forth.
Behind the Interchangeable needle system organization, there are 8 pockets for your circular needles. However, you are more than capable of putting several sets of needles in each pocket. I have used it to hold as many as 20 or more pairs of circular needles of varying sizes with space to spare. These are 5 inches deep to make sure that your needle tips stay secure without any problems.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, this knitting needle organization system folds up to a neat 12 X 7 and secures with the envelope closure and our famous strong and adjustable magnetic closure. We use the adjustable magnetic closure because as you fill this pack you might need to move the magnets to make sure that your needles stay secure. Also, a recent discovery made by my husband while playing with my many failures of the KnitPack Hybrid, you can also hang this pack on the wall if you have something magnetic to attach it to. I tried it out, and it worked with the pack completely full! I have a magnetic board and it stuck on the thing without moving. So you could go to Home Depot and get a piece of galvanized tin for a few dollars and hang it on the wall in your closet and hang up your organization system, then if you need to go to the shop, perhaps for Olympic Knitting, just fold it up and take it with you!
I am going to be listing these on the shop soon, but they will be special order only. If you are interested, you can email me or comment here, or message me on Ravelry at followingaslan. I will be glad to answer any questions you have or send you pictures of the current fabrics we have for this pack.
And, if you have an idea for the name, please let me know. I am at a loss for what to call this thing.

Hooray, babe! The Hybrid looks GREAT. I’ll be thinking of names between now and Sunday when I see you. Be sure and bring it so I can play with it!
Can’t wait to hang out!
