Research and Development:

This was a good day.At Erin.Lane the Superheroes work tirelessly to make sure that everything is perfect for the fiber community.  This means that occasionally we find ourselves defeating anti-organziational foes.  Fear not friends, we are superheroes, and that means that we ALWAYS win.

Sometimes the road to success is paved with pads of papers, sometimes with chocolate and tears, (from laughter, of course), and sometimes we get so frustrated we try to eat the paper with the bad design idea on it.  But through it all, our Research and Development team, (Lindsey and Lisa) persevere and make sure that you have what you need to keep your fiber craft organized.

Manufacturing Department:

Bertha:

Wow! This old girl is a classic.  She does it all and never misses a stitch.

She's been with Erin.Lane from the beginning.

The only girl in town with that automatic top feed attachment (her fabrics never “travel”); she is truly one of a kind.  Totally unflappable (unlike her operator), Bertha just keeps running along.  The only mechanical worker in our studio for the first few years, she never complained about the long hours, the too thick corners jammed under her needle, or the constant lint balls stuck in her guts.

A true professional, she can handle anything that comes her way and just keeps stitching.

Penny:

Brother NX-650Q

Enjoys sewing in circles and in straight lines.

The new kid on the block.  Penny came to the Erin.Lane family after a near miss with “a machine that must not be named.”  She was thrilled to come home with Lindsey and immediately started sewing circles (literally, she sews circles.) around Lindsey’s previously disastrous machine purchase.

Every day she waits patiently for Lindsey to get home from teaching and then she hums along, fast as lightning but as quiet as a whisper – attaching pockets, binding edges, kicking up her heels with some fancy stitch work – whatever is asked.  She’s even been known to sew sideways!  She is always willing to start any project no matter how late or tired she is running all day or night.  She and Bertha became instant friends and bond over piles of drawstring bags on a regular basis.

Sue:

Just like Sue Sylvester, this one has an attitude and kicks

She's just a Gleek.

butt whenever she’s handed a difficult task.  She will bang out any embroidery design she handed and makes sure that everyone knows she is a Champion.  She flatly refused any “boring” straight seam requests because “only losers sew seams”.  The tougher the job, the louder she happily bangs away.  We just ignore her tantrums, give her an occasional software massage, and she goes on about her business. She found her way to our studio somewhat lost and abused, but has finally found a home here at Erin.Lane.  She would never admit it, but she loves Bertha and Penny.  She is just too proud to admit it.  She sits in her personal alcove watching the team sew away and making sure we are all being the best we can be.

Maggie:

Brother 2800D embroidery and sewing machineAKA Margaret.  She was able to join our little sewing team due to the overwhelming supporting from our fans on our Indie GoGo Project.  She is a new, shiny, Brother 2800D Embroidery machine, who though can sometimes be feisty, is the bell of this ball.  She works super hard for us.  We have learned A LOT on her and from her about embroidery, but are thrilled that she is part of the team.  She found her way to our studio in early September of 2011, and we are thrilled she is here.  She embroiders quietly in the corner anything we hand her, and especially likes listening to Adele while she works.  Her mentor and predecessor Sue has briefed Maggie on the comings and goings of Erin.Lane and what to expect.  Now Sue is enjoying her retirement in peace having passed the embroidery reigns to Maggie, both ladies are extremely happy with their respective positions.

Ethel:

Our Cutting Table

The backbone of our studio.

Though she demands a great deal of space in our little studio, she serves our production in an invaluable way.  Without Ethel all the Research and Development team would have would be ideas, and the sewing team would be lonely and confused.

Ethel is in charge of converting bolts of fabric into the proper sized pieces for the Superheroes to sew together.  Her stability and unwavering willingness to never fear the rotary blade is what makes sure that Erin.Lane continues with success.

She never loses her temper, never fusses, and never complains about the weight of her responsibilities.

Without Ethel, Erin.Lane would not be the same.

Lucille:

Lucille lets off a lot of steam.  At times she can

Euro-Steam Evolution

She irons out all of Erin.Lane's problems.

be a little hot-headed, but that was to be expected as she is an ex-patriot from her native Italy.  She came to the Erin.Lane team when we saw how amazing she was at Stitches South 2010.  We immediately offered her a full time position in our company.

A EuroSteam Evolution transplanted here in the states, Lucille is generally surrounded by lesser irons, but she is always polite about her superiority.  She knows her steam tank, ceramic sole plate, and silicone parking space make her a cut above the rest, but being a true lady, she never brags.

Photography Department:

Al:

lightboxHe’s a bit of a square but he does get the job done.  He simply lives for diffusing light.   When he’s not busy holding Erin.Lane products for the photographer, he’s just hanging out (at the ceiling).

His best friend, Linus always hangs out with him to make sure he is never lonely.  He also makes sure that Al is never in the dark.

(Al would never admit it, but the dark scares him.  Shhhhhhh, it’s a secret.)

Together they are half of the Photography department.  Our camera, Phil, refuses to be photographed under any circumstances.  He thinks that the newer cameras will make fun of his Megapixels, so he has taken a vow of never being caught on film or in pixels.

You can take our word on it.  He is a looker.  He is compact and a midnight color.  Many would describe him as small, dark, and handsome.  The ladies here at Erin.Lane think so.  And, I have to say, all the products love to pose for him.   He’s not as bad as he thinks, but there is no convincing a camera to get over shutter shyness.

IT Department:

Carl:

Our IT department is crucial to the success of Erin.Lane.  Carl, IT Departmentour IT Director, makes sure that all the widgets, gadgets and software problems are solved when it is time to work on anything Erin.Lane needs.  His job is full of frustration, and sometimes, we catch him throwing a fit, but he is always a professional when people come to the studio.

He has to work closely with the Photography department to ensure that Erin.Lane has the best photos and product descriptions in the fiber industry.  He even works on Erin.Lane’s SEO in his spare time to make sure Erin.Lane is at the top of searches.

Not only does he work with the Photography department, the research and development team use him on a regular basis for market research, and he still finds time to help the accounting department.  What a guy.  Erin.Lane would not be the same without him.

Accounting Department:

Dyan:

Adding MachineTo sum it up, Dyan calucates all of Erin.Lane’s numbers.  Since Lindsey is mathematically challenged, Dyan works to check everything Lindsey thinks she has added correctly.

Working more closely with Lisa is Dyan’s preferred method of operation.  Sometimes her calculating personality makes it difficult for to Lindsey use her.  Meaning her best friend, Lisa, has to step in to make sure everything comes out evenly.

However, she does not complain about the millions of times she has calculated the same number of square inches, and continues to be a positive asset to the Erin.Lane Studio.

The Organizational Superhero Department:

Lisa:

She’s “Mom”.  An avowed do-it-yourself-er.  She learned to sew from her mother at 16 (let’s not talk about how many years ago that was) and fondly remembers the fun and laughter from that generation, too.  Now she continues that tradition of fun, laughter and love with Lindsey.  She was almost more excited than Lindsey when Lindsey bought her very first sewing machine.

Lisa made everything she wore in high school (yeah, thin was easy to sew for).  When she and her husband moved into their first home, and she found out how expensive drapes were, she bought a Sunset book and made her first drapes (roman shades are her specialty).  Today, she’s proud to say her two girls never had store purchased bedding, drapes, or throw pillows.

Lisa is a delight to work with – always.  She never loses her patience with Lindsey (even when Lindsey won’t get serious and stop busting the moves with Lady GaGa).  She continues to represent all that is good in motherhood – never getting frustrated and stomping off in a huff, never purpling the air with choice words, never eating too much chocolate, never sneaking off for a nap, and always, always, practicing respect and delicate lady like behavior.  (We’ve got some ocean front property in Nevada for you if you are interested.)

Lindsey:

Teacher by day, renegade crafter by night, Lindsey works non-stop, (like any good superhero) to rid the world of disorganized crafters.  After learning to knit from her Aunt, Lindsey’s organizational overdrive kicked in.  Without a system to organize things, Lindsey’s life was hollow and void.

Thank God her mother had a sewing machine, or Lindsey might have been found on a bell tower.

Lindsey started out as Hero-Support for her mother..  While Lisa stitched and stitched, Lindsey ironed ribbon, cut ribbon, measured pattern pieces, and ripped improperly sewn seams.  (Lindsey could now win a professional seam ripping contest, which was a good thing for when she finally started sewing.)  Eventually, it was evident that Lindsey would need her own sewing machine.   Once paired with Penny, she was off to the races–doubling Erin.Lane’s sewing capacity.

Like mother, like daughter.  Lindsey is a delicate flower .  She never raises her voice, never gets irritated when things go wrong, never gets frustrated with having to repeat herself over and over again, never throws her hands up in the air and quits, and never, ever walks away from an unfinished product.

(We are still accepting bids on that ocean front property in Nevada if you are interested.)

Hank:

Hank is our Erin.Lane mascot.  Since we cannot craft with a puppy in the house,

Hank loves fabric stores.

we adopted Hank-a skein of Pagewood Farms hand-dyed cashmere sock yarn.  He is the perfect pet.  He is completely house broken, never barks in the middle of the night, and is wonderful to pet.  He generally hangs out in Lindsey’s purse to make sure that if she is having a particularly bad day at work, he can peek he head out of her purse and remind her that fiber is waiting at home along with Penny to make all the evil things of the day melt away.
